Title:
Henry Handy's Sawmill for Handy's Resort — 1946
Date:
August 1946
VE Exhibit Label 1:
Image of the sawmill of Henry Handy. This is where Mr. Handy cut the logs to supply his resort cabins with wood. Written on the back of the image is: "Sawmill — where Mr. Handy cut logs for Cabins"
Provenance:
Excerpt from Donor's letter says: "Mr. Handy had a work horse named Minnie; she was very gentle. He hitched her up to his wood wagon and followed a road through the woods to an area where he felled trees, cut and split them into logs at his primitive "saw mill." At times, he would take some of us kids on the wagon. We would help him load and cut wood and bring it back to the cabins and stack it on the back porches. I remember my dad further splitting the logs for kindling."
