Bismark Barn Restoration Project

Preserving a Piece of Priest Lake’s History

For over a century, the Bismark Barn has stood as a reminder of Priest Lake’s early Forest Service fire management history.

In partnership with the Bismark Barn Restoration Committee, Priest Lake Museum, and Idaho Heritage Trust, the Priest Lake Ranger District is working to preserve this historic landmark.

Phase 1: Stabilization (2023)

Completed in 2023, the first phase cleared access to the barn and stabilized its aging structure.

Phase 2: Structural Restoration

Building on Phase 1, the next phase focuses on preventing further deterioration through:

  • Site Safety: Removing hazardous trees threatening the structure.
  • Log Walls: Rebuilding deteriorated walls with replacement timbers.
  • Roof Protection: Installing an interim metal roof.
  • Historic Features: Reinstalling original features and replacing window glass.
  • Structural Repairs: Repairing support columns and wood plank floors.

Together, these efforts aim to protect the Bismark Barn and preserve its place in Priest Lake’s history for future generations.
